Default RPM level

What RPM level do you run your bike at. I've got a stage 1, slip ons and thundermax. Local shop said to run it around 4-5k rpm but that sounds high.

Nothing below 2k. Running at 4 to 5k seems a little much. But maybe that's just me.

a)maybe they assume you drag race.
b) maybe they want your future engine work

I run between 2k and 3300 most of time. I usually only get to 4-5k when:

-HEavy acceleration
-cruising over 90mph on highway
- twiting the exhaust under overpasses

Personal opinion is 4-5k is probably not a good idea for cruising.....

Happy place seems to be 2800-3000rpm.

I've been cruising between 2500-3200. That is where the bike sounds the best and won't start popping when I let off throttle a little.

your shop gave you bad advice. A stage one TC motor will be very happy between 2,500 and 3,000 rpms. Nothing at all wrong with cruising a few hundred rpms below that on a good road with no wind.

Are you sure he wasn't telling you to shift up at 4 to 5 grand when accelerating hard?

I suspect your mechanic misunderstood the question, or you misunderstood that answer. No one cruises at 4-5000 RPM. For one thing, that's over 100 MPH in fifth gear, let alone sixth.

I suspect he was giving you a recommended shift point for fast acceleration. Which is about right for a bike with stock cams and heads. Anything above 5,000 RPM is just making more noise, not more power on a stock/Stage 1 motor.

I thought the advise was bad. I normally shift 4k-5k when getting on the throttle.
