I highly recommend the Harley Rider's Edge course. Costs more than MSF, but at least in my area the classes are more available and the instructors have more time to spend on individual students to help them in their weak areas. They currently use the 499cc Buell Blast. At 6'6" I could still fit on it reasonably well and found it a well balanced machine - except for the front brakes which struck me as being insanely sensitive.

Broken record time: I took the course because I had spent the previous few decades riding just off road and decided I would be well served to consider myself a new rider on the street, learn proper techniques and un-learn bad ones. Hardest one to get past was don't aim for the puddles!
It was a much easier transition than I expected, but I am certain it was money well spent.

Yep what they said. If you pass a riders course then you don't have to take a road test when you get your license, it is the easiest way to get your license.

You got a patience test as well as cycle endorsement, aye?
That would sucked being young and waiting 2 weeks.

MSF course is very good. No free passes at least with the instructor I had. All business and you learned how to maneuver and stop correctly. I thought I flubbed part of the riding test but ended up with a perfect score. Surprised as hell!

Yet another vote for the MSF test. Here in CA, if you pass your MSF test, you don't need to do the riding part of the DMV test. Their class counts as that part. I did NOT want to try to throw the King around their course!!

Definitely recommend course it'll help on your insurance too. I've ridden motorcycles since pre-teen. When my state NC started certification I was riding a Street bike and grandfathered in so I never did cones etc. Some of local MC shops in my area for small fee will bring Honda Rebel to state examiners office on trailer and meet you for test. After somemore training u might consider that as lighter bike is naturally going to be easier to maneuver. Good luck!

All I can say is WOW. My test consisted of one trip around the parking lot.

Motorcycles and cars. It's all the same. You only have to do it right once. See people who should have a failed, pass and those who should have passed, fail.
