I bought my RGC in March and love it! The fairing took me about 5 seconds to get used to. Once you are rolling it doesn't even matter, you only think about it when you are sitting still and staring at it.
Very stable on the highway as well. Go out and enjoy it.
I always found it such a burden to throw on a backpack. I never added bags to the Deluxe. And I know I could do that and solve that problem. I'd prefer hard bags and sure I could probably do that with the deluxe if I wanted. I have to carry so much stuff to work and then the gym after work. Also, now that I'm retired from the military and have lots of time on my hands, I want to start riding with my buddies alot more. They meet up on weekends and ride for hours....my Deluxe just isn't as comfortable anymore on those ride. I rode my buddy's RG and it felt soooo comfortable.
I also want to ride more with my wife and want her to be alot more comfortable. I put her on the back of my buddy's RG and she said she felt like she was sitting on our couch.
I also have to admit that some of it is just that itch....i want the radio, i want the cruise control, i want those glove boxes for storage, i want that custom look from the rear end that looks so dang awesome.
And, as a retired military troop (like myself), you're now "entitled" to these creature comforts...wife too ( )!
Appreciate the reply Top and congrats to you on USA retirement and the new scoot. All solid reasons for upgrading to the touring class and watch-out because with all those creature comforts comes many miles of smiles & enjoyment. Ride on!
Close to pulling the trigger and moving from my Softail Deluxe to the new Candy Orange Road Glide Custom. Super Excited about having a bike I can actually ride daily to work and to run errands, etc. That nose is something to grow accustomed to, but I dig it.
I'd imagine the RG Custom guys luv their rides. I'll be back to find recommended upgrades or changes
Good choice, it"s not hard getting over the nose, The first thing you will want to do before leaving the stealer is change the short stock windshield.

any recommendations? my buddy has something from ___ works. I can't remember the brand. he said his is 8 inches i believe. It wraps and is contoured. What size would you recommend. I don't want to go too big.

watertrapper, I'm debating on whether I'll go with those types of expenses again. I did that on my softail...V&H, power commander, etc, etc. Well, my softail is 88ci....I'm thinking 103ci will be a big difference and that 6th gear will be even bigger.....so, why not just go with some Rhinehart slip ons for the "noise" and a simple stage 1?
I found it a little doggy compared to my crossbones which I traded in for the Road glide, not bad by yourself but even adding my old lady who is not big at all seemed to slow it down a bit. Now that I have the pipes and breather and a someone not perfect map yet, the diff was huge and the sound in unlike anything I have ever heard....so glad I went with the v&h big shots! Was a bit expensive with a price tag of 1400 for the parts, did the labor myself, but the old lady bought them for me soooo got to give her props for loving the upgrades as much as I. As far as the getting buffeted by wind, I don't....I have never had a wind shield before so its hard for me to compare to anything, but I don't get buffeted at all, bit of wind on my face and none on my chest...to me it feels perfect, and the ride is smooth and the name if fitting for the ride because it does feel like you just are gliding!
I've had a sportster, fatboy, deuce ad on my second street glide. I too found I a heck of a burden to always wear a back pack on the deuce. Getting the street glide was a world of relieve. Hard bags, sporty an no more back pack!!
Congrats on the new scoot and for reaching the end of your tour!
On the shield (Klockwerks, I suspect) if your buddy's ride is comfortable for you at highway speeds, you have your answer. Buffeting on any bike is a very individual experience - I may experience terrible buffeting while you may not experience any at all on the same bike. The buffeting I experienced on my SG in bone stock configuration felt like I was riding with endless tennis ***** bouncing off of my helmet. It was bad enough that my vision blurred to the point that I couldn't even read road signs. A few mods now has the tennis ***** down to marshmallows at 60mph - less above or below that speed.
Just ride for awhile and get a feel for how well you and the bike match. You can work on modifications after you get them prioritized. And don't forget to included Momma in the equation! Some RG owners report that the passenger can suffer from some wind-related mods.

Well guys!! Wife and I sat at Ray Price HD in Raleigh, NC for 3 hours today. We looked, sat, rode, talked to owners, then we looked, touched, sat again. My wife luved the candy orange road glide and so did I. But both of us just could not get pass the nose. The profile from the side and rear was lovely, but head on just made us not like it. So, I went back to my original choice...SG! It's what I wanted, but chose the RG because I didn't want to have the same bike as others. And the reach just felt so much better on the SG...it just felt better being closer rather than so far away on the RG. So, tomorrow morning, I'm picking up a Amber Red Sunglow, 2013 SG. BTW...my 2005 Deluxe with 7,000 miles has a trade in value of $8500 and retail of $11,500. They are giving me $10,000....and of course I paid MSRP on the SG..no deal there. But the great thing is....I get to put that entire $10K on my new ride and enjoy a much lower payment
