Looking at a trip north through Canada and up to Alaska in early July. On my old BMW LT rain was never an issue. You pretty much needed to ride through a downpour to get anything other than the tips of your boots wet so I've never had any form of rain gear. With my new EG I think rain gear will be an essential carry item and would really appreciate any and all recommendations. What you've found to be good as well as what turned out to be worhtless.
The upper end HD stuff is nice but you're going to pay for it. I really like the icon pdx brand. Doesn't look as good as the HD stuff but very lightweight/packable keeps you dry and is 100% hi viz. I prefer bibs to pants. +1 on the boot covers and I use a seat cover too, the once the foam is soaked it stays wet for awhile......
I bought the Harley rain suite 9 years ago, its still mint.
very well made, it has reflective material, burn proof material on the shins, my only complaint is it does not breathe, you sweat your *** off when it is super warm and muggy and raining.
otherwise I will say I drove through a few hours of strong down pouring rain and stayed dry as a bone.
I added boot coverings also, I literally can ride all day in the rain and not get wet at all
I forget what I paid, it was 2004 when I bought it.
Im leaving for Laconia the day after tomorrow and my rain gear is definitely coming with me.
highly recommend the Harley rain. suite, good zippers, non breathable but 100% effective.
Have the boot gators and the high visibility HD stuff, I stay dry in heavy rain for long periods........I tried the frog toads and didnt like em. I have also heard good things about the tour master stuff.
FroggToggs Hogg Toggs here. Best set to date. They are breathable and no where near as hot as the others I have used. They sell heat patches yo put on the inside of your legs so you don't burn the pants to the pipes. It goes on with rubber cement, and I think it was an extra $7 for the patches.

+1 HD high viz is the best rainwear iv owned in 45 years of riding.
