Default cruise control install techs help needed

01flhtci adding in factory cruise kit. directions are confusing on one point.
item 2. install set resume switch wires (which are blue/black & white/blue) into cavities 11&12 of connector [22] as follows (see figure 11 for connector location).

Figure 11 is a picture looking into the fairing at the back of all the gauges etc.
set resume switch connector [22] is at about 5:00 to the back of right speaker.
then there is a note pointin to__ Cruise harness to interconnect harness connector [6]
which is at about 7:00 at the back of the left speaker.

Now figure 12 shows the wire schematic of the cruise harness (which was installed and connected to the cruise control module under left cover).
the one end of harness that plugs into the bike harness is labeled as: to interconnect harness [6a] (not connector 22 as in previous direction)

Going to my 01 flhtci service manual I find the mate to this plug (wire code to wire code for the correct pin and socket locations) labeled as : to ultra overlay harness [6b]
(this harness is the interconnect harness) So I am sure this is the matching connector.

Now socket number 12 is blank and plugged and the blue/black wire goes there.
socket number 11 has a white /green wire in it and tracing it in the diagram goes to the radio plug in.
However, pin 12 on bike harness is also blank so 12 would not go to anything.
I called HDMOCO and they didn't know anything about it and thought it was wired wrong from the factory (this is original bike harness)
so now the cruise harness AND the bike harness has this same wire in number 11 cavity(white/green).
However there is a white with blue in cavity 10 and a blue black in 9.

So are the directions screwed up or the harness.

directions are the newest update as of March 2000
This may need more than posting on forum to get straightened out so if anybody has an answer to this please email me, I will give phone number so we can talk in REAL time.
HDMOCO confirms the kit is right for this bike. but pin numbers and wiring is mixed up somewhere. choo_choo@hughes.net

I tossed the direction at that point and used the schematic in the service manual for the wires . Been a while but I remember you have to put the wires in the right positions in the harness plug.

Is this the factory add-on cruise control kit? I added cruise on my '00 FLHTC shortly after I bought it new , and as I recall there was a wiring issue for me too. Basically the response I received from an H-D tech was to use the wiring diagram in the service manual as being correct because the cruise kit fit several models. As I recall, if you put the wires according to the service manual diagram, the colors of the wires will be the same, and will be in the correct position in the mating connectors. Use the diagram that shows the cruise wiring for an Ultra, which has cruise stock. I'm not sure, but I may have had to move a wire or two into different cavities, but this was 6 years ago, and my memory ain't what it used to be! Hope I've been at least a little help.

FWIW, I have an '04 police EG and recently (Nov. '06) added the HD cruise control using a wiring harness provided by Cruisemount. I mention this because my experience was that it is important to wire color code to color code since the colors represent a function; for example, the white w/green stripe wire is the speed sensor wire; it tells the radio when to lower the volume from when you were cruising at 70 mph to when you pull up at a stop sign. That wire also tells the cruise unit what speed to maintain or resume.

Check the wiring diagrams in the service manual to determine what function the wire performs and then match it to the corresponding wire from the cruise kit. It really doesn't matter which slot in the Deutsch connector the wires are connecting in so long as the wires are connecting with each other for the intended purpose. If you want to pull wires from one socket and relocate them in the correct socket, by all means do so. But check the color coding to be sure you know what functions are involved.

First thanks for your responses.
04's use a different cruise, so I probably shouldn't go that route..but thanks anyway
I did a lot of wiring in the service on choppers(helicopters) and jets, so understand wiring.
But to maybe be more clear.
directions say use cavities 11 & 12 problem is
If I install wire in #12 per directions, it would go no where as the other half of connector has no wire there either
#11 already has a wire there that traces to the radio.
However, # 9 & 10 have the correct color wires that (might) have to be removed.
Directions don't say to remove wires, but I have heard elsewhere that you do have to remove.
I just want to do this right one time as it's a bitch to get to the connector and open it up and redo it, even though the connectors are now under the seat as I am leaving fairing off.
So if anybody could confirm that even though wires are in wrong spot, those are the two that need to be removed AND replaced, would appreciate it.
