Ever since I got my bike I have been trying for a distinct sound. Never really knew what it was to explain it, but I sure knew when I would hear it. The other night there were 5 of us riding, 2 street glides, 3 softails. That's when it hit me, its the sound of a softail that I'm wanting. They have a nice crackle at idle, not too obnoxious, but just a nice sound. Has anyone else noticed the distinct sound of softails?
So my real question is: Can I get that sound from a Touring? FYI, I have a FM 107, Heads, T888 Cams, VH X-Pipe and Twin Slash's. Would removing the baffles help? Ideas?
I get it. I know exactly what you mean. Best I can tell it's because the softtails have 2 pipes on the same side. They don't merge, but the exit close to each other. I think the answer is an exhaust like Longshots. They look sorta odd on a bagger, but that should get you the sound you want
There's guys on here that have 2 pipes on the same side.
They look ok.
Better I think, at least for performance would be a kick *** 2-1.
Some of them don't look too bad either.
It's just a different look that's all.

I wondered the same thing with the two pipes one side. I really don't want to go that route though. I started with one pipe (bike is a 2010) and didn't like it.
I had a softie with longshots, loved the sound. I tried to duplicate it on a bagger, but did so with a pipe on each side, sounded mediocre at best. I've heard baggers with longshots (or similar) 2 pipes on the right side, and it duplicates the sound of my softie. At this point, I'm just not willing to give up the performance of my 2-1
Yeah my softails sound different than my tourers did but this is on purpose by the moco. Sportsters, Dynas, softails, and tourers are all made to sound different. The sportster has the best sound to me but the softails to me are a close second especially with samson true dual fishtail exhaust.
