Just bought an 81 FLT that needs some TLC. I first had a couple of questions because this is my first HD and what an HD it is. First a little about it. I bout the bike from a friends dad and got it with all the fenders bags and such but no gas tank. Got a tank off of ebay and all went to the painter minus the factory hard bags. So this is my current status.
First question: It has a single headlight with what looks to be the correct (not factory I know) chrome trim that forms to the guage cluster. Am I able to now mount a batwing fairing to this with the two bolts on each side or do I need some other mounting hardware?
Second question: The factory bags have turn signals built into them with locks for the bags on the top of the light cluster. Where could I find replacement signals of would I be better off replacing the bags with new ones and doing some other signals?
Welcome to HDF. This Touring forum deals with much later bikes than yours. Call in the Classic Shovelhead section, where you will find like minds with a better working knowledge of your query.
I *think* you are saying you have the FLH and not the Tourglide FLT, and you are looking to put a batwing fairing on by mounting it to the bolts on the nacelle housing.

(for some reason the link is not showing correctly. Take the space out after the http: and copy it into a browser.
You need #29 and #30 if I understand you right.
Good luck, had an '84, loved it....

Thanks for the feedback but I couldn't get your link to work. My HD is an FLT but the previous owner had replaced the dual light fairing with a single headlight and a chrome housing that is what I assume you are calling the nacelle. Not keen on the lingo yet. But anyway I was wondering if any new batwing will work and If so will it mount strait to the side bolts or how would that work?
Thanks again and I will also repost on the shovelhead section.
It would be worth reading through this thread. It relates to a similar query on fitting a batwing. It would help if we can see a photo of your headlamp and instruments, so we can size things up.
For some reason, this site is truncating the link.
Copy the link below as it is.

Now, notice after the 'http:' there is an extra space before the '//' It should look like http:// not http: //. So copy the link into your browser and take out the extra space.

Sorry but I did exactly that and just got redirected to the home page for the site. I even did a search but no luck. Hopefully you guys can see my pics from my last post. Thanks again for all of the help.

Try that link again and select: 'OEM Harley-DavidsonŽ Parts Finder' in the black bar, then on the next page click on 'Motorcycle' near the Harley bar and shield. On the next page use the drop-down menu to select year, when you will be able to see the factory parts book for your 1981 FLT.
