You can always make an Electra Glide classic look like a Street Glide

Well, er, no.

Unless you want to lose that ugly front fender, the ugly bumpers and tail lights on the rear, and the boring wheels. Do all that and you will be close....

There is still the issue of the bag latches and gauges.

My opinion is always get the newest model you can afford. Choice between the EG or SG depends on your style of riding. Do you like to tour around 500 miles a day, or bar hop?

Nope it's just bolt on parts that differentiate an EG from a SG so you definitely CAN make an EG into a SG if that's your wish...the real question is what you want in a finished bike and do the math to see which is the most cost effective way to get there. Some will add stuff to their SG, others will take stuff off their EG...neither is "right" or "wrong".

Anyhow, to answer the OP's question;

- do you want/need the EGC's equipment? going to be riding 2 up often?
- how important is $5k to you?

you need to answer those questions yourself, nobody else can. There is very little difference between the 2011 and 2013 SG so keep that in mind as well.

Of course you can. I swear some of you guys must never look at custom bikes, read magazines, etc. You can't even tell what most of those bikes started out as. An EGC and a SG is the same bike with different trim and some added/deleted doodads. Period.

That "ugly" front fender is the same as a SG fender with some bolt on stuff added. Many people find the stock SG wheels "boring" too as evidenced by the 9000 companies selling aftermarket wheels. Check E-bay for SG take-off wheels....there are always several sets for sale. Bag latches and gauges? really? it doesn't get much easier to change latches.

You want different? compare a SG to a Goldwing or CBR...but an EG is somehow a vastly different bike? I don't get it.

I maintain that by the time you change front and rear fenders, gauges, latches, wheels and paint the bike, you would have been better off buying a SG and adding necessary add ons.

Ahh, another Streetglide wanna-be. Hey, I understand, it is the cool mans bike. But really, if you want a SG, go buy one, it is a lot cheaper in the long run. Still, I think your Electraglide "Sport" is OK, for you.

LOL. They literally are the same bike. Literally, not figuratively. All they do is just not put on the tourpack, and the SG is 1" lower. That's it.

No, not really...there are quite a few MINOR differences, but from a mechanical standpoint, yeah, they're pretty much the same. Which one is the right choice? That depends on what the OP wants the bike for.

Well, other than:

Holes in the fenders where the chrome was attached
Different floorboards and passenger pegs
Single color paint without stripes
Different color guages
Different style wheels
No saddlebag guard
Sportier windshield
Different tail and running lights

Well yes, I guess they are the same.

Do you also consider the RG the same?

Of course not, the fairings are easily distinguishable as different by anyone. And they handle completely differently due to the frame vs. fork mounted fairing.

But SG vs EG.... All that stuff you list is not going to be noticeable flying down the road at 60+ MPH.

But then again, if you just want the bike to look cool stationary, and that's where it is 99% of the time, then....

Oh! come on Y'all....Chill out... it's few "DOODADS" difference...Buy what the ***** makes you grin a little longer...Do you want looks or function....I didn't really care about the "CLEANER" look of the SG... I wanted a tourpack, i bought my bike to ride, not shine...So the bling and the clean look was secondary...The salesmen at the dealership asked me what i was gonna do with the bike and the EGC was the choice...77000 miles in 6 years...If i was just gonna bar hop or ride shorter distance then i might have gone with the SG...
