Is there a difference in ride and handling between the two? Coming off a 2007. Have not ridden my 2011 too much yet, about 15 miles, still not plated but that is a different topic. Bike has a little over 7000 miles. It feels like the bike is pushing into the corners, not really going where I point it. Also just hitting little patches of gravel or imperfections in the road and bike seems to get a little wobbly. Seems to ride straight and ok down the road. Not for sure if I'm over analyzing or what. The whole purchase of the bike has been a nightmare. The person I purchased from of course says bike has not been crashed and that they never had a problem. I did a search on cyclechex.com, and nothing came up. Bike also has a clean title. Tires possibly? Tires look a little wore for that mileage.
the new frame handles alot diif than the 07, i agree it may be tire pressure thats causing your pushing in the corner. also remember you have a 180 reat tire and thats a good bit wider than your used to so it might take a little get used to the differences
I traded my 07 in for a 12. It is a much better bike. Rides firmer and tracks much better. Has the cush drive in the rear, along with a larger rear tire. Frame is stronger, and does not wobble in higher speed turns.
The 103 is a easier motor to drive than the 96. Requires less shifting, and has better mid range. Riding double and up hills it feels much stronger.
Think you will like it once you get used to the transition. I have not noticed the handling issues you mentioned.
Since it is a used bike, you might wish to have someone with experience check it out.
Thank you to my hdforums brothers. I am an idiot. Not mechanically inclined, but I took the advice and checked tire pressure. Front tire 6 psi, rear tire had about 4psi. I had ridden the bike like that, wow. Inflated to proper tire pressure and what an amazing ride. I will remember to check tire pressure more often from now on.
Three years ago I bought a used bike, bigger than what I was used to so thought the strange handling around corners was just something to get used to. When I got it home I found the tires had about 10psi in them. Rode completely different after I put air in them... Heh.
Also keep in mind tires get hard as they age. Yours are original tires, 5-6 years old and probably hard as a rock. You can probably get through this riding season with them but you should put on a new set over the winter. You will feel the difference yet again.
Glad you found an easy fix and can enjoy the new ride brother.
