Default Advice Setting Vieds

I was running the FL-vieds on 75% with stock head pipe and 3.5" Rineharts. I just had my catless head pipe installed Friday. I adjusted the vieds back to 50% according to the vied instructions. When I rev up the motor it would pop very loud on decel, so I adjusted back to 75% no popping. I rode the bike approximately 100 miles today. I thought the bike ran good, very little popping on decel. Is anyone else running vieds at 75% with similar setups. I have seen many post that most people are running them at 50%. Just trying to figure out why mine would run different and if I needed to try 25% or not. Any advice would be great.

Thanks
Jeff

I have the same set up as you only with moster ovals. I run mine at about 45% and only get decel pop when rpms dip below 2000 .

I was advised to go on a good, long ride before any further adjustment... I backed mine off at one point and got some decel popping right away but it went away after an afternoon spin (maybe 75 miles).

2013 Heritage, Vance and Hines Straight Shot slip on's, stock A/C. Vied's running at 60%. Little decel popping. Tomorrow I will try increasing them to 75% and see what happens.

Have you checked your plugs after your 100+ mile run? If they still look good when set at 75% I wouldn't worry about it.

I have catless header, stock AC and RC Components slip ons on my 13 FLHTCU and was advised by Steve to set them at 75%. Running great since I installed them about a month ago with no decel popping. He did say if it was too loud to back it down to 50% but it sounds perfect to me.

Here is a post with pics showing spark plugs set at 75%. It was started by my husband on another forum. Hope it's okay to post.

Ironically we havent installed the Vied's on my stock 2012 CVORG yet. We will soon though. We always ride together and when my bike goes into heat management mode, my husband's bike doesnt. I've been a little stubborn wanting to keep my bike stock but I think I'll cave here and get these put on my bike.

I asked Steve, who makes them, this very question, here's his answer:

"Generally the VIED's want settings around the 25% rich area once the converter is removed. This is actually to compensate for reversion bringing fresh air to the sensors (which is seen as a lean mixture and actually adds some fuel), so the VIED needs to be 'turned down' some to compensate. The net effect is you are still running (and adjusting) to get the ECM to run in closed loop at 14.0:1, but you have to back off on the VIED settings to stabilize the voltage readings with the lower settings because of the fresh air that can get to the O2 sensors with the converter removed."
