Thinking about doing a fugly conversion
i have thrown this idea around a lil bit latey. very interested in seeing what you come up with here. redbeard can you email that parts list to shadydcmc@gmail.com
Not trying to change the subject but for my curiosity, is this worth the effort? I've been watching Craigs List a little and there are a lot of used RGs for sale at good prices. It seems (and I could certainly be wrong) that it would be easier to sale your bike and get a RG. Just curious.

For me, it was worth it. When I started to look at the parts I already had installed and purchased for my bike, starting over was going to be much more costly. Combined with loss on a trade/sale, ordering parts again (pipes, tour pak, tuner, bars, etc), registration fees (Colorado ain't cheap!) and the conversion was the way to go.
It was important to me that the project built the bike in a true-to-factory form. Everything was used from HD, and it was assembled the way HD would have done it, down to every little detail.
Best part is - I got to keep my bike. It's got some sentimental value to me, and converting was the way to go.
It's personal though - others may not feel the way I do....!

So to answer your question:
costly probably
time consuming, absolutely,
worth it, priceless......
The unanswered question is after this what's next?

If I sell my bike privately, I could maybe get $8500. Add the cost of the conversion, about $1500... no way I am finding a Road Glide, in decent condition, with my miles for $10,000.
Just yesterday I found an outer fairing for $50, at the Long Beach Swap Meet; a headlight assembly for $30, and a fairing bracket for $25.00.
The inner may cost around $300, but I'm still in my budget, even after I get the outer fairing painted ($150).
Saw this RG fairing for sale on local Craigslist. Looks odd on Dyna though
