Done - if you have any questions, let me know. I got pretty good at finding part numbers, etc and the experience alone was helpful. It's an easy project.

Beary,

For me, it was worth it. When I started to look at the parts I already had installed and purchased for my bike, starting over was going to be much more costly. Combined with loss on a trade/sale, ordering parts again (pipes, tour pak, tuner, bars, etc), registration fees (Colorado ain't cheap!) and the conversion was the way to go.

It was important to me that the project built the bike in a true-to-factory form. Everything was used from HD, and it was assembled the way HD would have done it, down to every little detail.

Best part is - I got to keep my bike. It's got some sentimental value to me, and converting was the way to go.

It's personal though - others may not feel the way I do....!

for me, i already had completed the motor work on my RK, with welded and trued crank, big bore, etc. had changed out tranny to a baker OD 6, and basically made the bike my own exactly as i wanted it. Now, would i ever take it to a dealer and let them work on it, NO! Not after everything i have gone through to make it mine.

So to answer your question:

costly probably
time consuming, absolutely,
worth it, priceless......

The unanswered question is after this what's next?

I definitely think it's worth doing the conversion.
If I sell my bike privately, I could maybe get $8500. Add the cost of the conversion, about $1500... no way I am finding a Road Glide, in decent condition, with my miles for $10,000.

Just yesterday I found an outer fairing for $50, at the Long Beach Swap Meet; a headlight assembly for $30, and a fairing bracket for $25.00.
The inner may cost around $300, but I'm still in my budget, even after I get the outer fairing painted ($150).

Saw this RG fairing for sale on local Craigslist. Looks odd on Dyna though .

You could get a terrific paint job for the $$$ an RG conversion will cost. Something to consider.
