Default Questions about Road Glide conversion

I have a 2009 Street Glide, thinking about the Road Glide Conversion and some questions.

1) Is the 2011-13 Fairing and mounts compatible to my 2009?

2) Is the fairing interconnect harness from the 2009 70274-08 usable on 2010-13 fairing or do I need the 70274-10 fairing interconnect harness?

3) Is the fairing interconnect harness 70274-10 compatible with the main harness in my 2009?

I'm sure there will be many other questions along the way before I make my mind on the conversion. Thank you in advance for any input.

I am actually making this exact swap as we speak on my 09 SG. The outer/inner fairings are the same for a huge year span. Small differences in the headlight mounting is the only major change and its $55 worth of parts on an older fairing to be up to date.

Fairing bracket from 9-10 and 11-13 are different. Or maybe its 10-13. They moved it up and changed the angle a few degrees to work with standard lowers. I ordered a bracket from a 13 for mine. What ever bracket you get you have to get matching lower fairing brackets(ones that go to the crash bar). I opted to use a hidden bracket for this that bolts over to the gas tank mounts since it was $50 cheaper than new factory lowers and also allows crash bar removal if wanted.

The wiring harness is only $225 dollars. I am going to see about just modifying mine to work before dropping the coin. Not a big deal for me to open up the loom and retape it after removing the wires for the speedo and tach. Connections on the main loom under the tank is the same. Fact is my harness that runs over the back bone says FLHT/C/R/X with ABS.

He had about $2300 roughly in his conversion with 100% new parts. I am going to have around $1500 in mine with a few upgrades in it. An extra cost in there that I did not account for was handle bars/cables. That is a huge expense over the top depending on what setup you get. I am going to have about $700 in bars/cables alone. I am going to try to sell my old fairing, daymaker head light and windshield for a few dollars.

Project sounded super scary but I honestly have about 3 hours into tear down and took off a lot of extra stuff around the bike doing other projects aswell. I will have double that in install time I figure. So about 2 full days. He redbeard has made a document that includes all the parts with numbers and prices to get to make the swap easy. I ordered close to 60 nuts/bolts/fastners and hardware online for less than $100 so its not as scary as it sounds. If you aren't real confident in doing some simple untape/retaping of the harness just buy a new one for 215. If you are staying small on bars or stock type no need in new cables. I have learned a lot just from looking at the parts catalog and looking at the notes made by redbeard. Ask away if you got more questions

Redbeard719 here...my conversion post is linked in my signature.

To answer your questions -

1) Is the 2011-13 Fairing and mounts compatible to my 2009?

They are compatible. Make sure you get the main fairing bracket and the lower fairing mounts from the same years. 10-13 all match and allow for regular vented lowers. 09 and older match, but you need special lowers for a Road Glide if you want to add them.

2) Is the fairing interconnect harness from the 2009 70274-08 usable on 2010-13 fairing or do I need the 70274-10 fairing interconnect harness?

Not sure, but I would presume so. I'd have to study the diagrams for each harness and cross reference the pins/connectors to see if they're the same. It could be something as simple as the newer harness is a touch longer since the fairing is farther forward with the newer mounting brackets, as mentioned in the first question.

3) Is the fairing interconnect harness 70274-10 compatible with the main harness in my 2009?

See above.
When I did my conversion, I got the right parts. Even if there are deals out there, I didn't want to take any chances with it potentially working or not working.

Lastly, it's a big project in terms of collecting parts and having things painted. Beyond that, it's just a matter of taking off a batwing, and putting it back together as a sharknose.

Good luck with your project!

Since the frame didn't change, the fairing would all bolt right on. The problem is the electronics. The old gauges won't fit the new fairings, and the new gauges don't work with the old electronics.

My next bike will be a Rushmore Road Glide - I think! But that's a long ways off...

I too am converting my 09, My advice buy a new OEM outer primed fairing. The prices on eBay for damage one it's not worth it. On the other hand you can score an inner OEM faring complete with glove boxes cheaper than you can buy one from Harley . I paid 300 bucks for a complete lower faring and just under 400 for the primed outer fairing

I did mine a couple years back. I extended the harness with no issues. I used an aftermarket inner and outer. Everything was good except I had to modify the gauges to fit in securely.

I did an 06 and used 10+ Brackets and lights. It was a pretty easy project. I have since moved on to a Rushmore, but my conversion thread is still on here if you search. I took pics along the way if you want to reference my conversion.
