There are really two tires for the 2009 and up touring bikes (IMO) that really work well. the Dunlop 408F and 407 (stock tires) and the Dunlop American Elite. They're both dual compound but have a little different tread. I like the way the American Elite's handle better. the 408/407 are only available from the dealer and cost a lot because of that. The AE's are available from a number of places - check the web. Since they're dual compound you should obtain awesome mileage - I usually get 13K to 15K out of my rears (more from the front) but there are a number of people on this forum that are getting much better than that - I guess it depends on the individual.
Going to put Michelin Commander II's on my FLHX real soon. Got 10K on stock Dunlop's and the rear is cupping out. I had the II's on my '10 Ultra and ride mostly 2 up and had 15K on them when I traded and they were still in good shape.
I'm actually having new tires installed tomorrow, I'm going with the OEM Dunlops. This will be my 2nd replacement pair and I am getting 20K miles out of the rear (but like changing both) I ride everyday rain or shine and as long as there is no snow or ice and these tires have not let me down...
just my 2 cents...
I am with Royce on this one! I just installed my third set of OEM Dunlops on my 2010 StreetGlide. Both previous sets got me 19K+ miles with about 2mm left on the tread when replaced. I will buy them every time!
