I have a RK Custom with a 16" windshield. The wind buffeting at 70 mph is so bad I get a little dizzy.
From the research I've done, it seems mine is shorter than the standard RK at 19 1/2". I have to drive interstate to get anywhere.
I'm leaning towards the Clearview 18 1/2" recurve, I've tried to do my research but I was hoping to hear from some of you, what height do you think will be best for me? I'm 5'9" with 30" inseam
The recurve "adds" 2 inches to a shield . I think 171/2 would be fine , and then even at that height you may be looking through the shield. If you are doing 70+ speeds, you might want to get fork mounted wind deflectors.
The Stock is 19" and that would get the air up and over. Many of our riders prefer the 21" and look through the shield. This cuts more wind and with our Optic Clarity and Rain Shedding your vision is excellent. F4 Customs offers both Tint and Clear. f4csutoms.com
Many times the buffeting is not coming from over the WS, rather its' coming under the tank and then up into your face & head.
Try this, while riding on the hwy, move your arm and hand over the tank and off to the side a bit. If that decreases your buffeting, you may want to look at lower fairings or something.
even when my windshield was taller and I was looking through it I was getting buffeting on my 07 custom.
I put on HD deflectors and that other little thing between the forks and most of my buffeting is gone; I also cut down my windshield so I am no longer looking through it... seems to come on earlier with my 1/2 helmet vs my 3/4 helmet as well.
Yep, this is how you test for it, and the fork wind deflectors made a huge difference on my RK with stock shield. I'm not even looking for a replacement shield now.
Also, just fyi, on my 2013 RK I had to move the passing lamps to the forward mounting hole to get the HD fork wind deflectors installed. Well, OK, I had the dealer move them because of the tool involved.

I too have a RK custom. I am also 5'9" with a 30 inch inseam. I got a Longride Shields 18 inch shield a couple months ago. I like it. It is the right height for me to just see over the top of it, and the recurve helped to reduce the buffeting vs my previous shield. (Same height, no recurve). Haven't worn a real helmet behind it yet, and I'm sure there is still some buffeting coming from below, but it is better. Got the medium tint and it looks pretty good too. http://www.longrideshields.com/mobil...lt.aspx#P37522
