I have an early 2009 RK with 23000 miles on the clock. Just got back from a 3000 mile trip and I seem to have developed a noise in the primary.
Symptoms same hot or cold.
Clutch pulled in and it's quiet, but release the clutch and it sounds like spinning a rough bearing, a sort of light scraping grinding noise. Pull the clutch in again and after 2 seconds it stops.
I think I know what the problem might be but before I decide to crack it open I'm seeking opinions.
Go down this page to the mainshaft bearing race tool. That is what you need for removal and installation. Georges tools are expensive but super high quality.
sounds like inner primary bearing--might as well do the compensator while you are at it.
Funny enough the stock item looks fine but I've ordered the SE comp while I'm in there. Hopefully it will all arrive next week and I can button her up Saturday.
No idea why the bearing has picked up like that, never seen it before.
It sounded like s#|t when I turned it by hand, hopefully I caught it before it toasted anything else.
Guess I was lucky with that scoring it wasn't going to last long.
