Share the Road
Just got back from a 3200 mile trip up to NorCal. (I used to write full stories about this stuff in a blog, but thought I'd mention it here and maybe spark some sharing.) From SoCal I rode up 395 to Bishop. Next day rode over Tioga, through Tuolumne. Absolutely beautiful! Hit a deer on the western side! Amazingly neither the doe nor I were badly hurt. Only a bent engine guard for me and she didn't stick around long enough to say how she faired. After a bit of the twisty foothills on 49 N., I headed back up into the mountains on Hwy 4 and camped at Alpine Lake. That road has been recently paved and is smooth, clean and fun all the way up and over to the Carson River. Next day I headed back west over Carson Pass and down the 88, then north along the foothills again on 49 to the 50 W. Just as I was enjoying the 49 an alarming noise on the bike caused me to point myself in the direction of the nearest Stealership, Folsom. Those guys were great! Loose swingarm bolts were tightened and I was on my way north to Red Bluff where I met up with friends. For the next four days we rode surrounding roads and highways such as Hwy 36, Hwy 3, the 299, 89, 44, 32. The weather was fantastic, and the riding so enjoyably challenging that we rode eight to ten hours each day with only brief breaks for lunch. At week's end I rode south again through the sierra passes I'd missed on the way up.
