Default aftermarlet tourpacks

Was looking around on ebay and found some good looking tour packs here and here. Just wanted to point them out as I know alot of people have looked for a cheaper alternative to the harley ones.

I originally bought the second one you are refering to. It is of good quality. Remember you have to buy about $100 worth of hardware and put it all together. I ended up using a factory pac after all.

I have one in black cherry pearl that cost$189. The paint matches very well. Quality is not bad. You still need to buy something to mount the tour pak onto. I bought the two up detachable tour pak mounting system and mounting brackets. That cost about $200 or so from HD. You will also need to drill holes in the tour pak because the existing ones do not line up. You will also need to get some large washers from you local hardware store to use with the mounting bolts on the inside of the tour pak. I am also about to add some more insulation to the rim so that it seals better and does not vibrate. Still a better deal than $800 + for the HD tour pak.

I have had the vivid black version, previously customcyclegear, mounted on a solo detachable rack for almost two years; they currently sell for $110. It's made of ABS plastic, same as newer HD TP's. It's a phenomenal value. I also have an HD Ultra TP on a two-up detachable rack; an older fiberglass model. The width of the customcyclegear/matusa is virtually identical to the King since I use a piece of luggage that fits perfectly width-wise in both boxes. The front to rear dimension of the cc/matusa is slightly less, but not worth mentioning. They seem to be about the same in height.

The only drawback to the cc/matusa would be, IMHO, if you wanted a luggage rack to carry heavyweight stuff. I haven't tried this, but I would be concerned about the stability of a heavy load on the cc/matusa box.

I seldom ride with either box on the bike, so cosmetically I prefer no box at all. The cc/matsua comes with a backrest that works fine; doesn't have the arms of the HD King, but would probably be fine for a passenger. Also, the cc/matusa comes with a lock and two keys; you buy a lock and match it to your key when purchasing the HD King TP.

These are not everyone's cup of tea; but they do the job, are well made, and represent real value if you don't need HD on the box.
