Default Brake install question

I am going to install floating rotors and lyndall brake pads on my 05 E-glide Standard (front end only)this weekend. Anything I should look out for? Anything in the service manual that isn't quite right? Any tips or tricks? Thanks in advance.

Funny, I just did this exact job on my 06 SG on Sunday. Lyndall Z pads and HD Vivid Black Floaters. Didn't get a chance to ride it yet, it was snowing when I finished[:@].

I used the factory service manual and torqued everything to the specs in there. I removed the front wheel before removing the calipers. I think the manual has you remove the calipers first, but the fender was in the way with the wheel installed. Just remember to break all the bolts before jacking up the bike. Also, push the pistons all the way in with the old pads before removing them - makes it easier to get the calipers back on once the new pads are installed.

I am doing ecactly the same thing. Lyndall Z+ pads and vivid black floating rotors. Where did you buy your parts from? I used Cyclespot and Zanotti motors.
I am not sure yet if i like the looks of the vivd black rotors, guess I will have to see them on the bike. They just look kind of generic to me. I am in the same boat you are. It is snowing here , so once I get them on it will be a 5 foot trial run in the garage..LOL.
Be safe.

Easy to do, make sure you use a torque wrench.

I got the parts from my dealer. HD of Long Branch is the sponsoring dealer for Jersey Shore HOG, every year the owner runs a 20% discount night for JS HOG members only. He re-opens the shop on the designated night and serves food and drink while the members show up to pick up the parts.

The vivid black rotors are not as flashy as the chromed ones, but I am more interested in the fact that they are floating as opposed to the looks. I go for a bit of a more understated look on my bike anyway.

I'm hoping for a good ride this weekend - looks like the weather MIGHT cooperate...

One extra step that could save you some hassle down the road, clean the caliper pistons. With the pads still in pump the breaks until the pads touch and spray the pistons with brake cleaner.

Red locktite on the rotor bolts.

When you are done, pump up the brakes before you take it off the jack.

I have not had an original thought since I got married.....all of this stuff with better instructions is on Lyndall's website.

Check them out below. I thought the same thing after unpacking them, but now think they look good on an SG with its understated styling. Bountyhunter also has them.

To RJ: You don't need to Locktite the bolts when new HD rotors are used, as they have new bolts in the package with threadlocker already applied. HD sez to use new bolts any time the old ones are removed, but I've re-used them on my '96 RK using blue Locktite and never had a problem.

I saw that bit on the Lyndall website also. It is not in the service manual. How did you "re-open" the pistons once you pumped them closed to clean them? Thanks.
