Default Pinging gone? 2012 FLHTK

When I first got my bike a few month ago, I had the ping that many folks complain about at around 2,500 RPM. I tried the FL-Vieds and at first they seemed to help but in the end they didn't do anything except suck up more gas. I read somewhere that cooler plugs could be the trick and they made it worse.

So, I went to my local dealer and they told me (1) that the noise I was hearing had something to do with my flywheel and (2) that I should try to keep it running over 3,000.

I've changed my riding habits a bit by keeping my RPM's up a bit and don't shift into 5th unless I'm doing 60 and 6th at 70. Cruising at about 2700-3,000 seems to be a sweet spot for my bike. I also changed my plugs to the standard HD plugs gapped at .04. My bike now runs like a top with no pinging after about 1,000 hot miles in 80+ temps.

For me, a fresh set of plugs and boosting the RPM's by a few hundred is the answer. Knock on wood.

I run 3oz's of Chevron Techron in the fuel, once a month, keep the rpm's up and ride it. Use the stock recommended plugs, not a different heat range or aftermarket

This stuff? I forgot to mention that I did dump in a few ounces of Lucas Octane boost so may that's part of the fix. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/web...ontent=7080568

After moving to a 103 from a 96 I also heard pinging at around the 2,700 rpm range- this was after hitting 4,000 on the odometer. Took it to the dealer and hey gave the once over. Stated it was engine harmonics for the 103, to not worry about it and to try running it at higher rpms. Even after the V&H power dual, breather and HD Super tuner upgrade I still hear this noise in the 2,700 rpm range. Running at a higher rpm range of 2,900-3,000 seems to eliminate the noise.

Try slowly running a half a bottle of seafoam through the throttle body while the bike is running. It will smoke like crazy and remove carbon from the upper cylinders. Carbon causes ping (along with other things) but all this will cost is 10 bucks and 30 minutes of your time.

Why not just do a stage one and be done with it? Seems that would do away with the pinging y'all seem to experience wouldnt it?

Honestly at 72 MPH in high gear I am running aaround 2600 RPM's with no pinging on a stock 96.

Seems like a BS answer to just say keep the RPM's up to stop the pinging.
