Decatted mine and lost a lot of heat but still pretty hot. Going stage 1 next. Couldn't be happier with my '12RKC.

Thanks for the replies.

I bought a '13 in black. Got a GREAT deal. This also is the third bike I have gotten from them over the years and so we have some history.

Rough day to test ride bikes with 90 degrees and humidity.

Loved the bike. I figured I was taking that bike once I got down the street and so I did about 60 miles of break in. (Better me than someone else).

I got back and for the hell of it I took out a Fatboy and then a Heritage Softail. I didn't have to get to far to know I wanted the RK. I then took out the RK again for a while.

I did ask them to put the Softail Classic bars on RK though.

I am going to wait until the first service before I decide what pipes and tuner I want. I'm not looking for performance as much as fuel management for heat etc. I'm going to TRY to keep this bike basically stock. Btw, yhe dealer did mention to me about removing the Cats to lessen heat.

Actually the heat didn't bother me. It really didn't feel bad, even in today's temp and humidity. Maybe it's because I have been riding bikes with fairings for the last 9 years.

Read Baust55's post again slowly, then go to Captain Itch's site and check out his crotch coolers. He is a sponsor here, an awesome dude, and has great products.
No disrespect intended, just trying to clarify the question for you.

well if you want a Road King Classic you need to do it before they are all gone,
from what I understand this is the last year for them.

See my earlier post. I bought one yesterday morning. Can't wait to pick it up.

Yes, this is the last year for them.

No disrespect taken.

I Googled it after I first read it and went to the site.

I have a 2011 RK with CAT intact. I have never been motivated to remove the CAT because the heat has never bothered me. I always ride with good stout 11" high boots and heavy jeans and can't feel the heat at all.

I have always wondered what riders with heat complaints are wearing for gear.

Exactly. Have 22,000+ miles on my 2011 and have no interest in removing the CAT. Realize that you are straddling a 103 cubic inch internal combustion engine. It is going to produce heat. I have ridden in temps in the low 100's and the only place I feel the heat (and only when not moving) is on my inner upper thigh. It's coming from the rear jug and header and is completely unrelated to the CAT. If it ever really starts to bother me, I'll get a crotch cooler from Captain Itch. (He and Isabel are great. Good products, good people.)

You really hear more heat complaints with folks that have lowers. It blocks the wind and keeps the heat from dissipating in the wind.
