Default SE 255 Install Started

I started my install today, well not really because all I've done is take the floorboard, intake, and exhaust off. Taking it slow and will start taking the cam cover off and cut the pushrods as soon as my magnetic lifter holders get here.

Looking forward to following your progress! Will be starting the same install soon, just going through the top.

Best of success!

I was planning on the top too but the members here swayed me to adjustables. I bought the install kit from fuelmoto. Pretty good deal but now I have rocker gaskets I don't need.

I finished up a swap on my '11 FLHTP this morning. I started about 8a on the 4th and quit at around 6p. I had to take time away from the bike for cooking ribs, family time, and eating. Worked on the 5th and finished up (pushrods & exhaust) in a couple of hours this morning.

Late models are much easier than the early TC's, it had been 5-6 years since I put cams in my '01.

Take your time, be meticulous, and enjoy.

I cut my pushrods, removed the cam plate and removed the oil pump. Now I need to remove the bearings. This is where I need some help. I bought a heartland removal tool from a member here, but no instructions and I'm hesitant to attempt this. Can anyone who is familiar with this tool provide some help. There's a pic of the removal tool and I also have the installer but not pictured.

Cardboard to route the oil to the pan. Also had to slowly pull out the cams because the tappets weren't fully on the magnet. Easy fix with a screwdriver.

Unscrew the big nut until you can push the center rod in far enough that you can squeeze the "petals" of the remover a enough to get it into the bearing. That end gets pushed into the bearing until it snaps in behind it. Hold the threaded piece with a wrench and tighten the the big nut until the bearing pops out.

You might want to get some new pushrod tubes that allow more room for adjusting.

That center long skinny rod moves freely in the tool and doesn't expand the petals at all. The petals have a tapered edge, am I supposed to tap the tool into the bearing or like you said just push it? I've seen pullers that will loosely go in the bearing and expand til snug. This one doesn't do that.

I have the tubes that came with the adjustable pushrods. The pic above is before I cut the old ones.

You may have to tap it in.
