The crash bar is generally where the siren is mounted along with aux lights or a bag, depending on the department.

I doubt the engine runs cooler with lowers. This has been discussed here ad nauseum with people claiming to have measured temps and proven it out both ways....even hd techs offer mixed messages on this topic.
