if flow is increased, tuning compensation will most likely be required.
there are tuning solutions from $125 to $1000.
this can be a warranty killer- (some devices allow operation outside of designed parameters which can pooch the motor)
as above, the catalytic converter restricts flow and sound- if you "gut the cat" or swap header pipes to a non-cat style ( $100 vs $600)- you should also be aware that this violates the warranty- and if your State does inspections, you may be in trouble down the road for "tampering" ( 2010+ Federal regs).
just to be aware of..
you may just find that with a removed cat that the mufflers you already have ( 3 sets now?) work just right
so you open up the exhaust ( yay!), if you then open up the intake with any of the hiflow intakes, you will realize about 10% more power ( yay again).
hi flow intakes will cost anywhere from just over $100 to $300.
this is the "stage 1".
a stage 1 can cost anywhere from $600 DIY to $2000 dropping at the dealer and paying full boat for all they offer.
if sound is a rider's concern, go to a bike night and listen to what other guys use- make the correct choice the first time, not the 3rd or 4th
factor in whether you like the radio, if you like to ride 8 or 10 hours a day. or if you are just running around the neighborhood ( and if your neighbors have kids who go to bed at 8pm)
FWIW I have an 09 model with no cat in the headers, supertrapp/ screaming eagle nightstick mufflers with adjustable disks- these can be as loud or as quiet as I want- adjustable.( $200 used)
nightrider.com xieds for tuning ( $120)
and ness big sucker intake ($115)
while I was under warranty, I was prepared to put bike back to stock if going in for service ( which was not required)

Yup, get rid of the cat & the heat! Go Vance & Hines Power Duals, and either Vance & Hines High Output slip-ons or Rush Big Louies with the 2.5 baffle. Both sound great. I've had 'em both on my 2011 Limited, but I have the High Outputs on now because they're a whole lot deeper and bassier. I think the Big Louies might be just a little louder if you go with the 2.5 baffle, but they're both a nice gutsy big bike sound. Go to a dealer on a nice Saturday morning & ask some Ultras to fire 'em up for you. (They will.) When you hear something you like, you'll say, "that's what I'm talkin' about, right there!"
Well, seeing as this is a brand-damn-new forum and we've never discussed this before.....
Call Fuel Moto and get yourself a new headpipe and a set of their mufflers. Or a set of Fatshotz (which are the goddamn shiznit).
Or hey, just take a drill to your stock head pipe, totally screw it up, and slap whatever mufflers make it the loudest.
FREEBIRD!
Yes, in fact, I'm sick of these threads.
Simple solution, DO NOT OPEN the thread, then you don't have to be sick and tired of 'em!! Try American Custom for a decatted head pipe or go to true duals. Love my duals from RCX and they were a piece of cake to put on.
i have a 2007 street glide and i was thinking about getting the samson dual fishtails because they are loud does anyone have these on there bike and what do they think

I'm really thinking about the V&H Big Radius 2 into 2 pipes. I'm getting conflicting suggestions from different dealers in the are. Should I get or do I need a tuner and air flow kit if I put these pipes on? Thanks all.
The $5 worth of Radio Shack resistors that Nightrider sells as the XIEDs. They're not a tuning device, all they do is change the voltage reading from the O2 sensors to add a little fuel in the closed-loop part of the map.
