Yep I realized that last summer when the low beam part of my headlamp bulb burned out. Bought a sylvania bulb at the local pep boys and it's a much better white(and brighter) than the HD stock bulb IMHO. Plus the dealer didn't get my 20 bucks for it.
Brighter yes. Have stock headlamp looking for brighter, but can't afford LED's. I did replace the 25 watt passing lamps with autozone 37.5 and big difference.
why would you want the stock bulb--it sucks big time. If you need a new bulb go with a bright bulb.
Never needed anything brighter than stock. Why upgrade ? If it ain't broke why try and fix it ? I'm all for an upgrade when it's needed but in this case, I just don't think it's necessary for me.

I guess it all depends on where you live and the type of riding you do. I live in the south, with lots of back, dark roads. I swear every Sunday on my way to Service, income across a car in a ditch or crashed into a tree. Then through in debree, rodents and deer. In my area of the Carolina's the stock bulb won't suffice. I now have a PIAA H4 Extreme White bulb in and it makes a huge difference than stock. I do alot of after midnight riding to clear my head and I'll admit, at times I do push the throttle. The stock bulb wasn't good for me.
I replaced with a Sylvania "Ultra White" bulb, at least
I think that is what it is...............available at the local
part stores and WalMart for some reason I am remembering H3.
antway, brighter for sure and I Love it when the cagers
flash me in the daytime and they really seem surprised
when I hit the BRIGHTS back to 'em.
