Check the manufacturing date code on the sidewall. It will tell you the week and year that tire was made. Unless they're several years old I'd think it should be a warranty issue. Raise hell with your dealer and/or Dunlop if they're new manufacture and have 1k on them. I assume these cracks were not there when they were installed?

new tire was only a couple of months old by the date code when installed with no checking, and yes it is under warranty. dealers says they have seen this alot. harley needs to start putting a different tire on the front of these things and thats just what i'm going to bat for this time, don't want the same crap tire again.

I've ran Dunlop's for years on many different scooters and can honestly say I've never had a problem with any of them ... Maybe I'm lucky ... Maybe I ride differently ... And as someone mentioned earlier ... Some cleaning agents can cause problems with the rubber ... just my .02 cents worth.

Same here, I can't even count the Dunlop's I've bought over the years, every 3rd rear I also replace the front. Just put a new one on the rear of my 2012 EG, had 11.5 K on the tire I took off, could have gotten another 2.0 K on it but am starting out on a 6.0 K trip.

Count me in, too. I've got 17K on the front now and over 10K on the rear, had to change it out because I picked up a big hunk of metal, but even after 10K on the rear, lots of life left. Same on all my other bikes, been running them forever. Of course, the old Goodyear speed grips lasted the longest.

My 12 SG has had cracks since I bought it, I also mentioned it to the dealer but chose to keep an eye on it. I now have over 5k on it (would be much more but had some surgerys) and the cracks are the same as the first day. It is just superficial and not a problem, so far.
It may not give you a warm fuzzy feeling but, it is just in the very outer rubber. If you put a small screw driver in the crack, it will not go any depth at all.
I have run Dunlops since HD started putting them on their bikes and have never had any problems.
I did try a Metzler once and only once on the rear of my '95. I got a whole 6500 miles before it started showing thread. Junk!!
Just wanted to give my $.02.
Ride safe and have fun, BigRed (Roger)

I can't help but wonder how many "Dunlops are crap" threads I've seen. We should have some kind of lottery and see who guesses the closest. Anyone who's been on any forum for any amount of time has heard this beat to death. Can't say I've ever had any issues with them including my 2013 RK with 7K miles now.

the only thing the tires have ever had on them is water. i don't have ant complaints about any other dunlop i've ever owned, but these 18 inch ones start checking and look dangerous pretty fast. if anyone talks to a dealer they can tell you they have replaced many over the last couple of years. just think dunlop would have fixed this by now. they seem to be OK in other sizes.

Have run Dunlops for many years with no problems but now run the Elite 3s which I like better for rain grooves and rain. They also seem to last a few more miles than the original equipment Dunlops. But I am running 16s, not 18s.
