What are your thoughts on these different styles of clamps? The two on the left are thinner metal and only 3/4 inch wide, and brand new. The Torca clamp on the right is an inch and is also more heavy duty. It is also used. I could buy new ones, but I already have the other options if they are acceptable. The one on the far left uses an allen head screw and just kinda squeezes together. The middle one has 360 degree clamping and a hex nut. The benefit of the two on the left I think is that they tuck more neatly under the heat shield, but it seems like the one on the right would provide more clamping force/area. I will be changing my exhaust tomorrow and would like your thoughts please. Thanks.
Use the one on Left (new)...don't re-use the "used" one on right (HD clamp). HD's clamps are "crush" style and they don't recommend re-use (some do), but the far Left clamp's fine and does tuck away cleaner. I got the same type with my Bub-7 TD's a few years back and they're still holding strong...JMO.
The one on the far left looks too big in diameter. Middle one looks too flimsy. I would be leery about torquing it. I would go with the one on the right.
I bought two new ones from the dealer when I did my exhaust. Still in the bag. I reused my originals. Twice.
the ones on the left look like they are more for clamping lighter stuff like heat shields and the like , not heavy wall pipes , I think I would buy new and the right clamps
Yup, the ones on the left are what came with the system I am installing(MGS). They told me they work fine and I have no reason to doubt them, I was curious what experience you guys had with them. I believe I will be using them. So I guess my next question is, how tight? The instructions don't give any torque specs. They are 5mm allen head. I don't have a 5mm allen head socket. I could get one. Should I crank it down as tight as I can with a regular handheld L shaped allen wrench, or do I need a socket and ratchet? If the latter, what kinda torque spec am I looking at? Thanks again.
Hand tight with an allen wrench should be good. I looked up a general torque value chart and the smallest it showed was a 6mm with 11 ft. lb. tq rating, so 5mm should be slightly less.
