Default throttle stopped working

5 min after starting my 2010 SG, i'm at a light and the RPM climbs by itself to approx. 1100 RPM, then no throttle response. i pull off the road and restart it once, same thing. after two restarts it's back to normal. codes: P1511 HIST. anyone have this happen?
i have now road more then 200 miles since this with no more issues.

Here's some information in regards to your problem.

DTC P1510, P1511, P1512 4.35
GENERAL
Throttle Actuation Control Management
The ECM constantly monitors throttle actuation and throttle
component positioning. Several safety features are programmed
into the ECM to limit performance (refer to

Table 4-67
) when an error or fault in throttle actuation is

detected. These DTCs always accompany another code.
Table 4-67. Code Description
DTC DESCRIPTION
Throttle actuator control limited performance
mode
P1510
Throttle actuator control power management
mode
P1511
P1512 Throttle actuator control forced idle mode
Performance limitations are identified by code, as follows:
•

P1510 Limited Performance: Enables near normal

operation of the vehicle, guarding against inadvertent wide
open throttle conditions. Typically this code is the result if
one of the TGS or TP sensors, or one of each, has failed.
•

P1511 Power Management: Provides more limitation on

driveability, due to failure of the TCA, without a TGS, MAP
or airflow faults. The TCA is de-energized and the throttle
plate returns to its idle detent position. The ECM monitors
the operation of the TGS and adjusts the spark advance
and cylinder shutoff/rev limiting, allowing the vehicle to
reach traffic speeds (limp-home).
•

P1512 Forced Idle Mode: Provides extreme limitation of

driveability, due to a failure of both TGS, TGS validation
error, or failure of one TGS and the brake switch. The TCA
is de-energized and the throttle plate is forced to a fast
idle position providing enough torque to operate at a high
idle speed.
DIAGNOSTICS
Diagnostic Tips
DTCs P1510, P1511 and P1512 may remain for one extra
ignition cycle after other codes are cleared.

You should check for other codes that may be stored in addition to the P1511. Keep in mind it may just be the connector located behind the air cleaner. Some find if you separate the connector and apply dielectric grease this solves the problem. You should also check the contacts for corrosion etc.

Feel free to PM me and I will send you the troubleshooting chart for this.

Mine did that also. Clean the contacts/pins on the connector behind the air cleaner and grease them. The dealer installed a gold plated pin kit that fixed mine, they also replaced the twist grip sensor, no problems since. I have read from other posts, try to take some of the tension out of the harness going to the air cleaner connector (pull some slack) this has also caused the wire to seperate from the pins causing issues to. Do a search, the threads are out there. Wish you luck man.

What he said!

I've got a post somewhere on here about my similar experience. Picked up a cheap (as in $1.25) tube of dielectric grease and coated the connection that is located at 8 o'clock behind your air cleaner.

The number of people this is affecting is growing rapidly. It's a safety issue and needs to be addressed with a recall. Sadly, it may take loss of life to get the attention of the MoCo.

Glad y'all had this thread. Just happened to me today. My is a 2010 I got used but still only has 11,000 miles on it. It is a dangerous situation for sure.

my 2009 throttle failed today for first time with 41k miles. Simply no response to throttle. Open the throttle all the way and stopped at 1800 RPM, I then disconnect the 8 o'clock throttle body plug and started engine with same response unplugged as plugged. I tried to ride to the dealer and made several stops along the way. Eventually after a restart of engine it started working. Rode for an hour home bound with no problem. I did notice the little red key light alarm signal was on the speedo and alternated with the orange engine light on speedo, eventually they both stopped. Now I'm feeling insecure to ride out of town. Looking on here for diagnosis.

Comparing the wiring and connector on the newer Rushmores,it looks like The factory has addressed this problem.Time will tell.

Exclamation Leaving for Mexico…

I'm riding to Mexico today for the weekend, spoke with Dealer regarding ECM code P0120 and they would not give me any answers, just wanted to diagnose the bike for discovery but since I reset the code nothing to diagnose. So, we are riding south for the weekend feeling a little in secure. I hope the throttle problem doesn't reoccur. I did clean contacts at throttle body.
