I used Brake Clean and a micro fibre towel. No harm to chrome.

This just happened to me today. I dropped an empty plastic grocery bag on my right side rear pipe near the head and cat. 3 spots.

I used an old damp t-shirt to get most off while the pipe was still hot (just washed my bike and dried it with my old t-shirts). The rest I got off with WD40 while still hot. Be very careful not to burn your fingers. The t-shirt got very hot and I had to turn to another damp spot on the t-shirt a few times.

I use a method very much like Black_Hog before I try any chemicals. Make sure you use a cotton cloth not anything with synthetic fibers or micro fiber. Those will burn on to the hot pipe too. Get as much of the plastic off of the hot pipe as you can by wiping with a cotton cloth. It will come off. Then go to chemicals for a clean and polish. Has always worked for me.

Goo Gone. Spray on let soak, re-apply let it it for LONG time like overnight and remove sticky goo in the am. You can buy it most anywhere.

Wet cotton cloth while pipe is hot, then WD-40 or goo gone for the rest!

Warm pipes, not hot, and damp mr clean magic eraser, works great. Made my pipes look like new after removing some melted boot from the previous owner.

I cant believe this thread! This happened to me last weekend, must have hit a plastic bag on the road and had an ugly blue plastic line down my right hand side pipe like I'd leveled a smurf!
I didnt notice it till the bike was cold, hit it with never dull - coupled with some elbow grease (!!) and now looks like new again.

I've dodged a few of these myself, just for the reason that happened to you.

Plastic ice scraper worked for me, easy as pie. No scratches or damage of any kind.
