Question ape install

installing some yaffes soon and in the manual it says to remove exhaust and drain tranny to remove clutch cable cover. I believe I can rotate heat shield or remove it and get the cover off. also says to drain tranny is this really nessisary or can I catch a little run off with a pan under it. cant wait

You can do it either way. I did it once without draining (my Rineharts didn't get in the way of the cover) and I did it this past weekend with draining it. Just have a bottle to top off what you lose.

I pulled my exhaust away enough to take the plate off. It doesnt have to come completely away, just make sure the weight of the header doesnt put stress on the exhaust port bolts. check the two bottom bolts (clutch cover) make sure their snuged up. Drain the oil in a pan if its too new to replace. Be careful screwing in the new clutch cable its kind of a pita. Make sure it has a good O ring on it or it will leak from there.

Jack the bike up and put a short 2X4 under each tire. Lower bike down onto 2X4 and lean over on jiffy stand. At this angle you will lose a very minimal amount of tranny oil. Good luck.

I didn't have to remove my exhaust and just placed mine on jiffy stand and topped it off when I was done (service manger at dealership advised I do it this way).

I've done it both ways. Apes on, then 6 months later, apes off. The first time I pulled the pipe and drained the tranny. The second time, I leaned the bike way over to the left and didnt drain the tranny. I loosened the pipe (V&H Dressers) and heat shield enough to drop out of the way and cut off an allen wrench to get to the bottom bolts. I lost a little tranny fluid, but since it was only 6 months old, I put it back in and all is good.
