Default Chrome Lower Install

Does the inner fairing have to come off in order to install chrome lowers? I'm not doing it, but I want to get the inner fairingspainted and want to see if I can coordinate paint with the install.

Thanks
Kern

No it doesn't. Don't have to remove the inner to replace the lowers.

No the inner fairing does not come off for the job. The lower fairing cap(where the switches are) does though....If you need an excuse than yes it does....lol

Well, I'm KernFused!!

I have a slew of stuff sitting on the bench I'vebought over the past few months of winter. I don't know how to go about getting it all on there. Some of it I know I can do, some other stuff I'm leery of, the rest is for the pros.

The lowers, not for me. Passing lights I should be able to do. New hand controls with grips, housings etc etc....not sure about. Grips, yeah I can do that. I'm concerned with changing the housing for themaster cylinder and clutch though. Looking at the book for removing the inner fairing and lower fairing looks like a pain. If I remove the inner fairing, I should do the hand controls at the same time. If the lower fairing is off, might as well put the passing lamps on. With those offI might as well take off the outer fairing offand put the HogTunes and antenna in. With all of that off I should have the pro install the lowers and put my new HogPros on. (coming in a few weeks) What would you do? I have some serious coin sitting on the bench and to be honest,I dont what steps to take to make sure I'm not paying extra labor for items to be taken off twice.

I've contemplated taking the bike to my guy and paying for all of the labor just so I can get inner and lower off to go to paint and let him install everything.

What do you think? Any input on my dilemma is greatly appreciated.

Your bike looks great and the work you want to do to it will make it look even better. Bottom line, if you have read the manual and still don't fel comfortable turning the wrenches to get it done, taking it to your mechanic and getting it done all at once will probably be your best bet imho...

Thanks, I did a lot of thinking about ittoday.

I'm still muddling through reading the manual and searching through posts to see if there any more gotchas. I'mgoing to takeoff the inner and lower fairing, andthen going to doall of the hands controls while those are off, then doing the passing lamps.

When the inners come back (three weeks), I'll put them back on and take it to the dealer for the forks. Dealer is only about a mile from me. Wheels will be here by then so they can throw those on when theyput the lowers on.

I'm good with my hands, have good toolsand not a dummy by any means. I did all my own exhaust, big sucker and PCIII etc etc. No problems at all.I think I'm just a little nervous and need to face that. I alsothink I overwhelmedmyself with buying a bunch of stuff and trying to do it all at the same time.

I'm sure I'll have some more questions before the weekend is up.

Thanks for the help and input.
