Default kickstand loose...

My kickstand doesnt swing up tight against the frame anymore. I am dragging it some on sharp left hand turns. I cant really see anything wrong but I assume the spring needs replacing. Anybody else have this issue? Any advise or experience is appreciated!

The spring seems to be lower than anything else on the frame and can get damaged (stretched) by rolling over a speed bump or anything else that might contact the frame while you are moving. The spring is easy to replace if you know the trick.

The bike must be held more or less upright without using the stand as it must be maneuvered for the spring change. Remove the bolt which holds the locking key on top of the pivot end of the stand and remove the key. Rotate the stand so it points straight forward toward the front wheel. You will notice that all tension has been released from the spring and it can be unhooked and removed. With the stand still pointing forward, hook both ends of the new spring. Then rotate the stand back to its normal position, replace the locking key (it has a top and bottom, recessed on the bottom side) and install and tighten the bolt that holds the key. All done without having to stretch a pretty hefty spring or banging up your knuckles. After your first one, it can be done just about as quickly as it takes to read the description of the operation.

+1 on above!!

Went off a curb stretched mine...two days later came unhooked at a gas station. No fun trying to stretch it back on with needle nose just to get me home. Followed the instructions above to install...was super quick and easy. FYI after replacing I bought an extra and keep it in my bag....cheap $6 insurance should I ever be out and experience the same problem.

I'd say good luck...but you won't need any if you follow the above advice!

either the spring is stretched or it is not "hooked" the right way.

go over a parking lot speed bump lately?

Had the same trouble, solved by a new kickstand spring.

It's more than likely the spring is stretched. But, check and make sure the rubber **** is in place. New **** costs $1.00 and is very easy to install.

It seems both the spring and the rubber bumper are sort of 'consumables' ... have replaced several of both over the years and now I carry one of each along with the tools to replace the spring. Still need somebody to hold it upright tho while I do it .... unless I'm home with the lift.

On the road this summer out west I developed a floppy kickstand. I found this thread then when I got home bought a new spring replaced it works great you can see the damaged spring in the picture I must have hit a speed bump.
