Yes I follow you and no there are no parts rotating the other direction. You are in neutral and the starter ring isn't rotating.

Now IF you were in gear with the clutch let out which has the transmission engaged. And you were rolling the bike backwards with enough force to actually turn the motor in the opposite rotation and THEN HIT THE STARTER, NOW THAT RIGHT THERE WILL CAUSE A PROBLEM.

ya I know that....sometimes when backing up(garage, parking spot,etc.) Ill start the bike while still in motion..just wondering if its good practice or not....just curious... thanx for the input... other than chikinonachains..:{

Just my bad attempt at humor! You will not hurt anything with starting while walking your bike backing up as you described. But I have to ask what the he!! does "chikinonachains" mean????

that was the posters "name" that busted my ba##s..... about "wrapping my thumbs around the grips" so I don't hit the starter button...that's all.... just busten em back
