Default Replacing clutch cable??

Anyone replaced a clutch cable.....When i put on my new exhaust i got impatient and instead of taking of the trans cover around the trans dipstick to take of the stock right side exhaust bracketi loosened the clutch cable where it enters the trans and I think I may have stripped where the cable enters the trans housing (couldn't get it to tighted back up all the way)....think i might need to replace the chrome housing that holds the trans dipstick as well. It's at the dealer right now getting dyno tuned. Asked them to look at it and tell me what they think but I really don't want to pay them to replace it. Doesn't look like that bad a job, but what the hell do I know....couldn't get the damn exhaust on without f'ing that up!

Thanks for any input

Uh, why would you have to remove all that to replace the exhaust...I didn't have to on mine. Have you checked the ramps inside? The ferrule may have come out of the ramp. Clutch cable pretty straight forward to replace, got a manual?

Don't know what bike you got but all tourings are pretty much the same.
Invest in a service manual for your bike, it's worth the money.

But basically; In middle of cable is a rubber boot. slide it back.
Loosen the the nut and cable assembly there a couple of turns to get free play.
Pull the tranny dip stick and thecover.
Cable just hooks onto a metal lever loop.
Goes together backwards from there.
However, there are things to watch out for during the reassembly, proper positioning
and actuation of that lever.
Now you really should adjust the clutch itself under the left derby cover and because you
loosened the clutch cable, reset the handle play.

Really is not as hard as it sounds above. But unless you do it all the time and have it
memorized, you really need to follow the service manual procedure.
