Default Small leak at Primary

On my 08 FLHX, My primary is leaking a very small amount of fluid after Each ride. About a quarter size leak on my garge floor. I just changed the primary fluid and changed the plug gasket. The leak is not coming from the plug. I tightened and re-torqued the cover. Still leaking. Do I need to change the Cover gasket? With only 14,000 miles on my bike, you would think the primary wouldn't be leaking.

I had the same problem when I bought mine..it was a low mileage 06 that had sat for a couple years. I ignored it and it went away after a couple oil changes.

Check the bolts that hold the Primary cover on, its not uncommon for them to need torquing after repeated heat cycles.

Make sure it is actually the primary leaking. Leaks from other locations tend to work their way back to the low point on the primary.

Another point to check would be at the front of the primary where the stator wires exit forward. It is not uncommon for it to leak a little there and have the fluid migrate rearward to a low point and leave a "spot" on the garage floor.

That's what I am thinking as well. If you find that is is from this plug, some guys have had success with high temperature RTV to plug the leak.

Wipe everything off and really try to find the source, then you can fix it.

I'm thinking its not migrating. It only happens when it is parked and cools down for a length of time (overnight). I'm wondering if it is a typical MoCo crappy cover gasket? I shouldn't have to replace it after only 14k miles, but then again it's a Harley. This generations Triumph when it comes to motors and leaks.

My 07 have a leak in that same area. I found that it is coming from the inner primary at the pulley and running back to lowest point. After a ride there is no tell tail spot on floor until the next day after the bike cool down.

Get a flashlight and a mirror and look under bike in the drive pulley area and more than lightly you will see that it is coated with oil. Mind started after the local Indy did a complete oil change on my bike. Right now I just clean the floor and keeping check on oil level.

My 07 started the drip at about 22,000 miles. I talked to the mechanic at Toad Suck Harley and he said the primary gasket was more inclined to leak when it's not been riden for a while (like over the winter), and then you start riding it again.
