I always do two moves:
1. pull-in the brake lever when getting on any motorcycle, so it's rock solid even if on it's jiffy stand.
2. always pull-in the clutch lever before hitting the start.
btw.....I always leave it in gear when parked.....and when stopped while riding I ALWAYS stay in 1st gear, never neutral, just in case I need to move quickly to avoid a "rear-ender". that's how I learned decades ago.
The starter button is always hot. No neutral safety switch. I start without pulling in clutch lever, while it warms up I check blinker and stop light operations.
