Thermometer useless
My classic has it down on the lower left side. Looks like it might have a long enough cable to actually get the thermal couple itself outside of the fairing, which would update much quicker and give honest to goodness ambient air temp values. It does work, but, is measuring the temp inside the fairing which can take quite a while to get valid outside air temp value.
If it hung just outside the lower left side of the fairing by the cowbell it might work quickly, and accurately. Mine does work quite accurately, it just takes time to get up to ambient temp.

Well even if it did work accurately, who cares!! You know damn good and well put that gauge in the fairing was just another way for HD to leave room for use to spend more money for a oil temp gauge. There is no way in hell they thought we actually wanted that gauge. It's almost like having a built in calendar, does it add value or relevance? No
