Hey guys, any one out there ever experience shoulder pain while riding? mine is after riding about 2-3 hours. I had an accident back in april and was ran off the road and landed on my left shoulder but never had any pain from it till I got my bike back! I have stock handle bars on my ultra, it feels like someone hit me with there fist on the outside of my shoulder. And will last most of the day after I get off the bike. I guess I need to go to the doctor but I hate doctors in general. I looked on the web and the only thing that comes close to it sounds like bursidis and I only get it now riding my bike. It sucks cause Im a long distance rider and I have never experienced this till after the accident any thoughts on this would be great!
Try adjusting handle bars so you are not stretching. If that doesn't work you may have to change them. The injury probably just made you more sensitive but the reach problem was always there.
vicadin, muscle relaxers, and advil keep me rolling most days...helps to see a chiropractor before a trip too. go see a doctor-if nothing is too serious, get some pills and hammer down. or you can do physical therapy for six months and then start the pills.
You can try adjusting the bars a little closer to you and try a backrest if you dont already have one. It will take weight off of your upperbody and extend your riding day.
I have a 2013 Road King. Not sure how similar our bars are, but my bikes riding position is so awful, I have to gobble up pain meds any time I go past 100 miles. I completely blame the handle bars. Taller bars or bars with more pullback are my solution. In fact, my new bars just showed up Thursday. Yesterday, I measured everything, ordered new cables and hope to be installing them next weekend. Everyone is different, but having to reach foreword and down to get to stock handlebars, was causing me great discomfort.
I bought my bike last march and almost immediately had some shoulder pain. June of last year, I put on my apes, but the pain just got worse. I think the damage was already done.
Had an MRI about a month ago and I have 4 tares in the tendons. I see the surgeon again in August. He isn't convinced the tares (tears?) are what is causing the pain, but the research I've done say they are. He didn't even look at the MRI because it was not done with contrast. He only read the report.
I'm going to try to hold out until after riding season, but I'm pretty sure surgery is inevitable. If he has another way...cool, not looking forward to a month of not using my right arm.
I've already been to physical therapy and got a shot of cortisone, but that wears off pretty quick/within a day.
Now, I'm definitely not suggesting you have done any damage, but if you make adjustments or change your bars and the pain persists, check with a doctor, and be persistent on an MRI with contrast. My doctor wouldn't do it until I was adamant about it. An xray just won't show everything.
