I have an '06 Road King with updates as follows; 95" kit, big sucker air, andrews 21 cams, and supertrapp 2:1 exhaust.
I have Powercommander III that was mapped at dealer a couple of years ago. When I ride alone, no problems.
When wife and I ride 2 up, the engine pings and diesels like crazy if I pull any kind of hill...
Do I need to have the thing re-mapped or am I missing something easy. I am planning to try
octane booster and I always run 91 octane fuel.....
Any guesses?
I had the same problem and what I did is I took extended rides and documented at what speeds and RPM's the pinging occurred. I then went into the ignition map and at the approximate speed/RPM/throttle % I removed (-) 1 degree at a time until all the pinging went away. Some of the fields I have up to -2 degrees but I've read where other members have removed more. Each bike is different so you have to experiment with your particular issue.
First, run a can of seafoam through the throttle body while it's running. Make sure you knock all the carbon out of the upper cylinder. Then, check your plugs. I went to a se plug for high compression engines and they work nicely. If this doesn't yield good results, throw in a can of octane booster and see if that helps. If all this doesn't work, you now have the optimum conditions to evaluate your bike to determine where fuel needs to be added or timing taken out.
