I have a friend of a friend selling a 21" wheel with rotors from his 2007 Streetglide. Is it fairly straight forward to use the wheel and rotors?
I can't find a clear answer.
Here is what I think I know.
2007 uses a 1" (25.4mm) axle.
2011 uses a 25mm axle and due to ABS uses a special bearing too.
Can I just buy some bearing kit from HD and it fits perfectly? How do I know if the bearing fits inside the aftermarket wheel? Will the rotors work as is?
You are correct on the axles. I wouldn't imagine any wheel manufacturer using some non spec bearing in their wheel, so the HD ones should fit. HD sells a wheel install kit with bearings and inner spacer and a few parts you won't need. Order one for your model year and ABS. Rotors will need to be changed to ones that work with 08 and up Brembo braking system.
You need an ABS bearing for teh left side (25mm), a 25mm bearing for the right side and a 25mm crush tube. Depending on the wheel you might be able to get a hub preconfigured and bolt that on the wheel instead of pulling bearings and such but a hub does cost more than bearings. It all depends on who is doing the labor and how much they charge.
What kind of wheel is it? Hubs with ABS bearings are usually about $275. If you need help give me a call at the shop. (818)886-6545
