I stay out of there as the service department seems to be run by a bunch of jerk offs. If it isn't a t-shirt or an accessory, you can't seem to get a straight answer there.
Very true. There only 2 miles from the house. That's the only reason I go there. If its not warranty work I bring it to an Indy. I was told they are having a lot of problems with 5th gear in some of the newer bikes. I also thought it was the clutch, but I was told something in the tranny is getting rounded off?? I will update when I get the correct parts that failed.
The service dept at North Texas Harley likes and uses Redline in the tranny, and any good syn oil in the motor, including Mobil one. They have also told me they "strongly recommend" the HD fluid in the primary, as they have seen primary issues with other fluids. I'm not arguing as they have been straight with me on sales and service over the years, I run the HD primary fluid, Redline and Mobil 1, and the bike runs well.
It's worth the drive to Carrollton for all you DFW guys out there, by the way.
I've been to Longhorn too, and I'm not at all impressed. I live up by Lewisville and for the past 4 years or so, I've been going to Harley Davidson of North Texas in Carrollton. Zac and Daniel in the service dept. are awesome. I've never had an issue getting any kind of ESP warranty work.
Also, I was in there today pricing Redline, they have it out on the floor. Funny that Longhorn says it voids the warranty, but HD of NT says no problem.
I think it was $18 for the primary and $15 for oil and tranny.
Cyclegear in Plano and Bedford sells it too, but its not that much cheaper unless you live close to one of them.
The magnusson moss warranty act forbids manufacturers from requiring you to use specific filters and fluids to maintain your warranty coverage. If they say you must use a specific brand to maintain your warranty, then they must provide these to you at no cost.
I too have been using Redline Shockproof heavy with no issues at all. Great product in my opinion. I live in North Texas and talking to some riding buds, that dealership is difficult (service dept.) to deal with. I would go else where for any service issues.
i go to dallas quite a bit and have patronized this location for an "accessory and t-shirt" stop. I grabbed a t-shirt only because the ladies were nice, but the guy I asked accessory questions to was not so friendly so I walked on that more expensive purchase.. Their loss...
It can't be because of what you are using in the transmission. (gears don't slip)
However it could be what you use in the primary! (clutch plates do)
Synthetics in the primary can cause slippage and this is what you are experiencing.
So what oil are you using in the primary?
A lot of people use Formula + in the primary with good results.

Bingo
However, harley recommends to use their syn 3 product in all three oil compartments ( on the new 103). I did my 1000 mile service and did use the syn 3. I am easy on the clutch but do carry a load a lot and will keep an eye on my clutch.
gears slipping will make a racket...clutch slipping in high gears will not...
i would advise adjusting your clutch lever and checking the plates...
