Long story short the I am having some trouble with the transmission on my 2012 Street Glide. It is slipping in 5th, and 6th gear when I get on it hard. I brought it to Longhorn Harley, and they saw that I was using Redline in the transmission. They began to tell me how bad it was to use in a Harley, and I should not use it? They found the problem, and I think its something that a lot of people are having. The thing is.. They told me that if I continue to use Redline they will not warranty it if it happens again. Can they dictate the brand of oil that I use? Has anyone else had this issue?
Tell them to put that in writting, also that they need to provide you with the oil they require for free.
i agree with the first part of this.. however with that said.. Mother Harley will do what Mother Harley wants to do.. Remember; their pockets are deeper than yours..
I run redline heavy shockproof and have for years without issue in the tranny. Now if it's a clutch issue, then I do believe (wouldn't be the first time I'm wrong if not correct) that's considered a "normal wear and tear item" just as your tires and brake pads and you don't see many dealers swapping out clutch paks under warranty regardless of what kind of oil you use. I always run the HD primary oil in there.. It ain't no more expensive than others and if there is ever a question at least they know you had that in there. I know this because I just had my clutch, clutch hub, and clutch spring replaced under warranty but I had to get on their *** and then brought them donuts and kolaches.. Catch more flies with honey as they say.. :-)

I dont know about the specs of Redline, but if it meets all the requirments stated in the service manual, HD cannot say it voids or anything like that.

Not understanding how a transmission can slip. Primary and clutch but not transmission. Been using redline since day one in my 2012 rkc. No problems. They cannot not honor your warranty on the fluid unless it doesn't meet the requirements for that application. They are blowing smoke up your *** in more ways than one. Find another dealer.
I've been denied warranty service there myself, was somewhat disappointed.
I had my floodlight bracket develop cracks in the angles of the mounts and would not cover it claiming its a body part and not covered under extended warranty. Needless to say, I have not been back was resolved elsewhere. They sell more bikes than anyone in North Texas and have some killer parties, but the competition is catching on to all that and also servicing issues without talking down to their customers.

Sounds like they are a-holes in general. Best bet for that situation is to go somewhere else, even if it is a bit inconvenient. They survive on the ignorance of their customers.
I stay out of there as the service department seems to be run by a bunch of jerk offs. If it isn't a t-shirt or an accessory, you can't seem to get a straight answer there.

No, they can't dictate what "Brand" of fluid you use.
They can deny any claims if your preferred brand does not meet the manufacturers specs.
Not sure if Redline does or not though, so not going down that road.
PS: I am using Redline in my Street Glide too, without any issues.
