I've been doing lots of reading here and on the net. I think I have decided on the V&H power dual and high output slip ons. Where I am getting stuck is the air cleaner/intake and the fuel management. I want to keep the stock look of the air cleaner shell.
I am looking for a deeper tone from the exhaust. I am not a speed daemon but an improvement in HP and torque is a goal as well. I am not looking to be on the edge of damage, just something safe for the engine.
just about any of the hi flow air cleaners on the market will flow more than the motor can demand ( hypecharger is a notable exception).
I use the ness big sucker- about $115 shipped on ebay from easternpc.
that uses a chrome backing plate which complements the motor and uses a washable, oiled, reusable filter media.
this is also an easier install than some others as the throttle body support is still used, and the gas tank can stay in place.
this does use the stock football cover, which will hide the ugly plug and wiring on the throttle body
for tuning I use nightrider.com xieds/ vieds.
A quick easy and inexpensive solution.
2 things on the PD's, make sure the clamp on the crossover is oriented or trimmed so that excess threaded rod is not hanging down where it'll grab onto a speedbump.
Right hand turns on lowered bikes, the cover on the X pipe can hit hard- relieving traction from the rear tire
Read my post in this thread about Stage 1, H.P., torque and equipment. Not trying to sell it, just sayin' it works well for me. Hopefully it will help you.

Thank you Mike. I am assuming you are using the vieds and not the xieds? It looks like you need one or the other correct? Are there any cons to using the vieds and not a true tunable device? I like the idea of the plug and play and not having to find a competent tunner.

i too went with the rc-x haust and the slash cuts. i was going to get the vance and hines but the dealer suggested these. i also got the screaming eagle tuner and high volume air cleaner....really like them. a little loud sometimes but really gets to thumping when you twist the grip. only down side is the right pipe scraped when i took a little agressive right hand turn about the second day i had them on. none since. good luck.

I am using xieds, as mine in an 09...they make the mixture about 8% richer and solved a drivability problem I had while the bike was bone stock. I don't know if Steve was doing Vieds at that time.
so I went Xieds, slip on mufflers ( tunable supertrapps- and my 09 is a non-cat model) then lastly intake...making notes and gathering data as I went.
I totally satisfied with my results- and ever so happy with the money saved- each buck I save is one buck closer to another ( not "next") bike
the xieds/vieds are probably not of use if cams or headwork are in the future. and they do not alter the rev limit, some riders want a higher rpm, I don't
Ok, I'll say it. Give the guys at Fuelmoto a call. They will take the time to answer any and all of your questions, and give you good prices on all of your components. They will also follow up with great service after the sale should you need them.
