What windshield are you using on your RK?
Sit up very straight to see if you can use a shorter shield. If you being just a little "taller" puts your head/helmet in the airstream, you are not going to like a shorter shield. If hot rod sexy appearance is all you care about, do whatever you want and just live with the results.
Same here, except I have no problem seeing over the shield, or looking thru it when the situation (like going up a hill) warrants it.
The type of seat used, how you sit on the bike, is it stock height or lowered, etc. all needs to be taken into account when selecting a W/S. I've already had a windshield on one of my bikes that was perfect until I lowered the rear shocks, changed the seat which changed the seat height and sitting angle, and even the type of handlebars, and then the windshield was no longer adequate for my riding style. You need to keep these things in mind especially if you are comparing like model/year bikes.
I personally don't like looking through the W/S (which I was with the stock W/S). Rain is bad enough but when temperature changes cause the shield to "white out" it's just not for me. With all the considerations stated, I went with an LRS 16" Road King recurve. When sitting on my RK and after the normal "slouch" a few miles into the ride, the top of the shield is on the same level as the tip of my nose. When I put my hand over my head while riding, the air turbulence is about 5 or 6 inches above my helmet. I do wish LRS made their full sized W/S a bit wider, but I'm happy with it.
I'm hoping to get some updated photos tomorrow and I'll try to post some pictures. My signature picture is still with the stock W/S and I just changed my handlebars to Khrome Werks Sweepers. Good luck with you decision - low-and-loose or high-and-tight!!!
Anybody use Rain-X on these shields? Recommended? Discouraged?
