I fill mine to the full line every oil change and never have any issues. I can never get 4 full qts in when I do an oil and filter change and I let it drain for every last drop. I usually end up putting in 3.5 qts.

Normally run my 2011 at half way and its happy there. I have the SE A/C back plate and it gets oil on the filter with ocassional drip onto side cover if I get close to full mark. Yes with filter change it only takes 3 quarts to get up to mid way full marks. Never had it blow oil out on leg or side of bike as other have posted but did have someone behind me tell me they could smell oil burning during deceleration once when I got it a touch over full. Guess the vents into throttle body were doing their job.

3 Qts. for me initially, and check and add after that as necessary.
Like to keep it 1/2-3/4 way on the stick.

Hmm, My roadking is a 2010 96ci, has Stage 2 with SE A/C and SE255 cams. Been spot on. when I last changed the oil with the correct quantity it was half way between Add and Full marks on the dip stick , as per the hand book. Then for some reason a few thousand miles down the road I was checking it and thought i'd better fill it to just under the full mark, yes I know , I'm a fiddler! . Then the dribbling on the timing cover started a few hundred miles later, every time id ridden it it left a dribble, not loads but irritating. I mentioned it to the local dealer's mechanic and he said I had over filled it and particularly with the SE A/C it will do that and will leak out more than the standard filter unit that can mask it for longer. I took the filter off and when released about an egg cup full of oil ran out, bottom of the filter was saturated. Anyway all cleaned up (K&N fortunately)and reduced the oil level to half way again and so far so good. Thats my experience . Why they have a full mark on the dipstick that is overfilling it I dunno, unless the MoCo are saving money and using the same dipstick on everything, with different levels depending on the model.

You may be right on the dipsticks...I got tired of the dripping and vented it to the ground. The oil drips out until it finds its correct level in the pan and then stops.....Should have done it a few years ago, no oil mess or smell.

Don't add an entire 1/2 qt... After I have 3 in, I slowly nurse it up about 4oz at a time. It never takes more than 3 of these doses to be right. Overfull=B A D...

With the 1/2 QT that does not drain out and the 3 new QTS added, for me it is perfect.
