Ride two up 400lbs. Took a 3000 mile trip add gear 500lbs. all on the stock FLHX shocks. what is all the fuss about? we had a cushioned ride.
We bottomed out in some of the road craters a few times which I doubt any shock could have handled. and yes I can drop $$ on shocks if I thought I needed them.

What is your definition of bottoming out?
There are shocks out there that do not bottom out! Mrs B and I plus luggage are close to your weight. Bottoming out is when the rear shocks compress fully against their bump stops, so they have no travel left, which leaves the rear of the bike temporarily solid, with only the tyre left to cushion the ride.
The jarring shock, especially to the passenger, is not only darned uncomfortable, but can also be painful. You should ask someone to take you out on the back of your own bike, so you can experience it first hand!
As the rider you enjoy a privileged riding position, sitting over the swingarm axle, where any shock to the rear wheel is at it's least effective. Your passenger is sitting over the shocks, where it is most uncomfortable.

Do you for a moment think that it matters what I think when it comes to the comfort of my beloved passenger! The aforementioned latest 3K trip (5K UK) times two SG (second couple) and neither lady insisted on a 'better' shock be installed or else.
by the way I run 30lbs air, not the 50 recommended in the book. More air = slower shock travel, feels harder but not bottoming out. It just feels like it is bottoming out more often instead of working the shock travel.

If they don't know that they can be even more comfortable, how are they going to know they can ask for better shocks?! And it seems even you don't know that you can both be a lot more comfortable. Next time you hit a ghastly rail crossing or similar, or a series of big potholes, come back and we'll talk again!
This thread is like the what oil do you use threads...lol
My stock shocks bottomed out and hyper extended way too often.
I put progressive 440s in the rear and it cured all of that. I don't feel like I'm riding a caddy but I also don't feel like I'm on a hard tail. I guess the 440s are doing their job.
I'm 240 lbs 6 foot.
I agree, great product, naf website, better to ring him, also he gives a forum discount.
