Everything on the touring bikes is the same. Only thing that really changes is the Windshield/Batwing/Sharknose and some minor easily changed suspension differences. Softail ride compared to any touring bike is night and day.
Rodé My RKC 2012 for 40K just trade for 2013 EGU Limited got 1000 Miles on it big difference specially for the Passenger love it will do it again in heart beat
DO SOME TEST-RIDING... Try the Road King/Street Glide/Road Glide/Ultra Classic... Consider the optional equipment/mods... Assess your finances... NOTE: Carefully compute the options/mods that you may want vs buying the 'Limited' and 'CVO' packages... Remember this; It is a LOT easier/less-expensive to remove items than it is to add them... It sounds/looks like YOU are leaning towards/'really' wanting an Ultra and wondering if you can settle for less... RK is nice but it is no Ultra... You already know my answer/choice and I am very happy with it... Go for it...
Make sure you get ABS brakes...

I had the ultra and it seemed big to me..I never used the tour pack and the radio wasn't that use full to me. So bought a Road King and really like it. It does seem so much lighter in front, and more sporty I guess. I have gone to the Mustang seat with drivers back rest and I put lowers on the King. So I have made the King into a sorta Ultra! Were good now and When you test drive you will know...I think the Electra glide is best value...if you want that bike.
Let us know what happens...
After being on touring bikes for the last 8 years and just having to sell my 13 RG Ultra I was looking for something less expensive. I test rode a Heritage and absolutely hated the ride compared to the touring line. Ended up with a used Road King.
Every Saturday, all summer long, at least 1 local dealer has one of every bike on hand for peeps to test ride. Kinda nice for it saves the $125 rental fee, all though 24 hours is a pretty good testament to if you are going to like a bike or not.
Go ride one of each and find out for yourself, that way there will be no regrets. Would be nothing worse than spending $22K only to find yourself saying "****, I woulda, coulda, shoulda," and then takin the $2500 hit to trade to what you wanted in the 1st place.
I have had softails and Touring, big difference between softail and touring, and to me the Electra Glide Classic is more comfortable than the Road King Classic I had before this one.
