Default RK same comfortable ride as an Ultra?

Looking to get a electra glide .. the heritage softail just isnt cutting it for me. Absolutely love the bike, but anything every time im on it for anything more than 2hrs straight, and my butt is begging me to upgrade lol

So i've been looking at the Ultra's, figuring its pretty close to top comfort possible within HD, and made for longer distances.

Wondering, does the big fairing make much of a difference? Would i gain the same comfort benefits if i went with a RK?

I love the nostalgic look ... but im seeking more comfort than my FLHTCI currently offers.

Thanks for any info! Will test ride when possible, right now its not. just doing minor net research first.

Dont change bike because the seat is killing you, either have the seat reworked by MCC or try the seat exchange most dealerships have. You can most likely have the seat made as close to the electra glide as you want for a boat load less than swaping bikes.

Even if you upgrade you are going to most likely have to tweak and tune it to make yourself comfortable for the long ride.

Noobie here. Since owning my 2013 FLHTK for just over one month now, I have put on almost 2000 miles. A few of these rides were in the 400-450 range. We tried to budget in fuel stops about every 2-2.5 hours just to stretch a bit and enjoy the area which helped with not getting too sore in the bottom end. While the stock seat is very comfortable, like others have said, might be worth upgrading the seat. I just purchased a back-rest for mine which I will install this weekend, as my buddy says it made a huge difference for him. If on those longer rides I still have some soreness, I might look into a hammock seat as well.
I could not be happier with the bike and how the miles just seem to melt away...

Default Hi

Have you considered adding a fairing such as a dragonfly? I put one on my 2013 deluxe and love it.

Depends if you like the batwing, stereo etc. RK's feel different from Ultra's. Lighter and no fairing mounted to the handle bars.
My favorite Harleys are the road glides.....

its not just the seat ... i had the seat recushioned by one of the sponsors here, didnt help much tho. It just feels like i need an upgrade. Id like a more powerful motor also (currently 88ci i think)

"the miles just melt away" im not quite getting that feeling. I enjoy the first 50mi or so, after that it seems to get to me little by little ... cant explain it, other than i feel like i need a bigger bike.

Guess what im asking is, I know the Ultra feels/rides like a bigger bike .. its beefier, heavier, bigger frame, etc. Wondering if the RK gives the same feeling? Or does the RK feel like a lighter bike than the Ultra, just as my softie does?

RK feels like a much lighter, faster bike, but is just as comfortable. The ultra "bubbles" you more, which you may or may not like. I solo on the RKC but take the wife out on the Ultra. The weight of the fairing takes some getting used to when going slow like in parking lots. Kinda like riding your bike with your friend on the handlebars when you were a kid.
