Passing lamp is a sealed beam, right?
Sealed beam was built in China and sealed with Chinese air at Chinese temps.
Houston 100 degrees expands the air inside, turning the lamp on made it heat up more causing it to expand and go boom.

If the dealer insists on coming to get it, I'd suggest they bring a replacement light and install it and call it done. My vote for cause would be the reflector/lens unit clamped in slightly crooked or was overly tightened and was under strain. With enough heat expansion cycles, the strain made it break. I don't understand their "terror" of having you ride it. While your dealer may not have heard about this, there have been several reports in this and other forums about this happening. A long time ago, my dad told me that with any mass produced item, if something happened to mine, it likely has happened to lots of others. That holds true with this problem also. This will test your dealer as it will be easy enough for them to claim some rock chip you didn't notice weakened the lens and they won't cover it. If they do cover it, especially without an argument, you chose well.
The dealers "lead technician" has cleared the bike to ride so I'm taking it into the dealership this morning. It's about 20 miles away. The sales guys said that this technician indicated there "have been a few isolated issues with the lights on the 13's..." Whenever I hear "isolated" and "issue" in the same sentence, my antenna goes up.
It's under warranty, and they will cover it - trust me. I won't accept anything else with 200 miles on the bike. I'll report back later.
That could have been possible if I were standing in front of it.. I am now an ugly biker guy like the rest of you..
i know a guy that squirrel hunts with no gun - one look at his ugly mug and the squirrel just dies and falls out of the tree. His Dad used to do this too, but His Mom made his Dad quit because it tore the squirrels up too bad to eat them.
One day He was passing this "skill" on to his son as it was getting dark, He told his son "There's one on the side of that tree younder son, get him". The son cast an ugly glare at it - nothing happened. Again - nothing happened. His Dad said "I'll show you son", and put the ol' double ugly on it.
At first it was too dark to make it out - but that was no squirrel - it was a knot protruding out of the side of the tree.
He busted the bark off the side of that tree!
No headlight could ever stand up to that dude!
Forget it!!!

Seen it before and your rite on target No big deal. Yikes dont think i would blink and eye over it. Now if you turned the bike on and the electric fuel pump in fuel sparked and blew up the gas tank................

not a sealed beam on the newer bikes , takes a 800 series bulb , it is more like the headlight with a bulb that goes in the back
I know of it happening to a lady that bought a 2013 Heritage. Both of her passing lamps blew out with in 300 miles. On my 2013 RK one of the passing light bulbs burned out before 200 miles but didn't blow out the lamp. "It did smoke up the lamp a bit" I didn't take any chances and changed both bulbs to 37.5 w long life bulbs. Now they're comming off and being replaced with TL LEDs along with the head lamp.
