The front forks on my 2005 seem soft. I even have a dent on the top of my front Fender where it contacted at one time. So now I am investigating options. I would like to lower the front an inch maybe while I'm working on this. But I might just change to a heavier fluid as a quick solution while I gather parts. Anyway my main question concerns the difference in Stock type spring setup in both forks vs. one cartridge on one side and spring in the other like on front fairing models. Which is better? Is that what is is meant be the term mono tube? When purchasing a lowering kit from progressive does it only come with one cartridge? I am a heavy guy and I ride variety quality roads and want the best firm ride I can get.
I had the same issue with the front forks of my '08.
I have switched to 15w Spectro fork oil (stock is approximately 5w). I think that it made it much better. Especially my biggest complaint, brake dive.
Others say that 10w is a better answer.
Even though the fork action is much improved, I will be trying the Progressive mono tubes next.
Mono tube only describes the construction of the unit. Progressives mono-tube units essentially put an entire coil-over shock inside of each fork tube(left and right).
Well I installed the Progressive Drop-In kit and lowered mine 1.5". I switched to SE oil at the same time and it rode pretty firm. I gave it a few hundred miles and it remained the same, so I changed the fork oil to a 50/50 of SE oil and stock oil. That made the biggest difference. I dig it now and didn't have to raise it back up for a good ride.
