I'm getting ready to install Progressive fork springs on my 04 1200C. If anyone has done this, did you use standard fork oil or the heavy duty oil? Any comments appreciated.
When I had my Sportster I put the heavy SE fork oil in with the Progressive springs. I did not like the way the front end dove when braking and bottomed out when riding 2-up. Iweigh 170 and prefered a firm feel on the front forks. With the springs and heavy oil it rode firm but not harsh, and the front end would not drop when braking.
I put the regular oil in mine. Nice ride and I do not bottom out. If the front end dives when I brake, I do not notice it. I thought that the heavy duty oil might take away some of the resopnse of the springs. I only ride 1-up. Wife has her own sporty
I dunno about with the progressive springs, but just the heavier Screamin Eagle fork oil, has made my front suspension a LOT more firm. I'd say go with the regular fork oil. Then you can change out for heavier if ya want.
After the first time, getting that "Genie back in the bottle" (fork nut), it isn't too difficult. It's just one of those learning curve things.
